When I was thinking about what to write on the Volunteer State of Tennessee, it dawn on me that I have never discussed the things that Tennessee is actually known for. The list is long and instead of just making a list for you to read, I thought that I would put a different spin on it. I hope that you really enjoy this.

MUSIC

Tennessee is known for “On Top of Old Smoky” which was originally recorded by the Weavers in 1951. The song has a ton of variation to it, but the original was the Weavers. In 1967, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant wrote “Rocky Top”. It was recorded by the Osborne Brothers the same year and reached the top forty chart in 1968. This is one of 7 songs that the State of Tennessee recognize as it’s state song. It is also the fight song for the University of Tennessee. Nashville houses the Grand Ole Opry and is the gateway to Country Music. Memphis is the home of the Blues and Rock-n-Roll.

Food

Tennessee is known for award winning bar-b-que. The state has some of the best that you will ever set your lips on.

Sports

Tennessee is home to many college sports. Their numbers are too great to list here. High School sports is huge here too. There is minor league baseball throughout the state and you can even get professional hockey here. But, the biggest draw is the only current undefeated NFL team, the Tennessee Titans. Also, Memphis has the Grisslies, a NBA team.

Recreation

Recreational activies range from skiing in Gatlinburg to hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Canoeing and rafting in various rivers to hunting and fishing in many areas of the state.

Attractions

These range from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to Beale Street in Memphis to Chattanooga Choo-Choo in Chattanooga to Sunsphere in Knoxville to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.

Beauty

The entire state is cover in color as the season turns to fall. It is truly breathe taking.
